THE GIRLS STEP UP IN ARDREY KELL POWDER-PUFF GAME

With many rescheduling dates, hard practicing, and an abundance of enthusiasm, Ardrey Kell High School was ready to hold their first annual PowderPuff Football game on Thursday, November 9th.  The Powder-Puff games give the girls of the student body a chance to prove to the guys and the other classes who really is the best at football and school spirit.
“PowderPuff is a high school tradition, and since Ardrey Kell is trying to form traditions, this year’s Powder-Puff game was important.” commented Sherri Green, an English teacher and soccer coach at Ardrey Kell.   “At one point I looked at the stands and was impressed by how many kids were there!  The fellowship was awesome!”

With school spirit flowing all around the school, class rivalries started to form.  Since Ardrey Kell lacks a senior class, the freshmen class was scheduled to play against selected female faculty.  But the bigger rivalry was between the junior and sophomore classes, who played after the freshmen and faculty game.

“We are expecting to set the precedence for all the upper classmen for years to come,”  Christina Calott, a junior, responded when asked before the game what their intentions were.  “The junior class has great heart, great game, and amazing style!”  Junior, Mary Cline, agreed with Christina.

When it’s a girl’s game, not only the actual sport matters, but also their presentation of spirit through their style and enthusiasm.

The Faculty won 8 to 0 against the freshmen.  EllenAnn Curcio, freshman, explained jokingly, “Going against the teachers was an interesting experience.  They can get really rough!”

The sophomores and juniors played to a tie and went into overtime.

The rules of the game changed in overtime by giving the opposing team a point if the other team fumbled, played incomplete plays, or any other mistakes.  Because of the new rules, juniors ended up winning the tie breaker since the sophomores fumbled the ball.
Kristen Bowman and Lexie Tiller are proud sophomores who agree that “sophomores never get to shine, and the fact that it was that close of a game made it even more awesome.”

With the sophomores keeping the juniors on their toes, and the faculty proving their point of authority, Ardrey Kell is anticipating next year’s Powder-Puff game.

Another wonderful tradition established into the history of Ardrey Kell, thanks to the girls of AK for stepping up and showing what true spirit they really have.
