POOL IS THE PLACE FOR KATHERINE PLEUKA

There is nothing like swimming according to rising ninth grader Katherine Pleuka. The daughter of Steve and Sarah Jane Pleuka is a year round swimmer at Mecklenburg Aquatic Club (MAC.)  She currently swims on the MAC Senior Blue team.

It all started for Katherine with swim lessons at age three. She felt a natural love for the water and joined her first swim team at age five. Two years later, she made the commitment to year round swimming and the results began to improve.  A brief family relocation to Greensboro didn’t slow her commitment to swimming.

With each year, Katherine increases her training and commitment to being the best possible swimmer she can be. MAC has been a big part of her success.

“MAC is such a big part of my life. I am here so much that it has become my second family.”

According to her coaches, Katherine is a very dedicated swimmer and works hard to improve with every practice.  She specializes in the longer distances, and enjoys the 200 Breaststroke, 500 and 1000 freestyle and 200 and 400 Individual Medley events.

Katherine has competed in the North Carolina Junior Olympics six times and advanced to sectionals three times.  During her middle school swimming season at Weddington Middle School, she went undefeated in every race entered.

“I want to keep working hard, win more medals and hopefully earn a college scholarship.”

College coaches usually get excited when they see a swimmer with the grades of Katherine. She is a straight A student and served as President of the BETA club at Weddington Middle School.

Keep an eye on this young swimmer, she has the dedication and desire to become one of the top swimmers in the area.
