BEYOND THE GAME WITH ANDY ROBINSON

Andy Robinson is a member of the 7th grade Marvin Ridge Middle School Football Team.  He recently concluded the season and is ready to get started on next year already!  Andy is the son of Neil and JerriLynn Robinson

Have you enjoyed this football season? 

“Football to me is life, so far I've loved the experience that I've had with the team and coaching staff. I was on the team last year as well and it really had a big impact on my life. I really enjoy playing for the team because of the excellent coaching and the discipline we the players have. Just being able to get out and play a sport with friends has been beneficial to everyone.” 

What positions are you playing, what is your favorite and why?

“So far this year I have played three positions, Middle Linebacker, Defensive Tackle, and Nose Guard. Last year I was starting MLB and loved it. Defense really appeals to me because of the strong physical contact, specifically tackling. I also started this year off as MLB, but while playing a strong rival, Holy Trinity, I found a better place on the team for me, Defensive Line. I played Nose Guard that game and it was awesome, I knew then I belonged on the line. I went on to play Defensive Tackle the rest of the season.”

Do you have a favorite memory from the season?

“One of my favorite memories this season took place when we played Weddington in the playoffs. I have an old friend on Weddington named Jeff Welsh who plays Quarterback, and during the game I was lined up next to the Center. When he snapped the ball I hit the center so hard he reeled back and hit Jeff, knocking him to the ground. That is a great memory that I will never forget.”

What other sports do you enjoy playing?

“I enjoy contact sports more than anything. When football season is over I usually play Lacrosse, and even on those teams I play Defense.”

Do you have a favorite NFL player and team? 

“I like many NFL teams and don’t root for one in particular. But there is a player that I look up to and idolize, Brian Urlacher. Brian Urlacher is one of my favorite players because he is an exceptional Middle Line Backer and an aggressive tackler. Urlacher is a six time pro-bowler and someday I wish to play Defense like him.”

How do you do in school and what is your favorite class?

“ My parents are pretty strict about grades and the football coaches set standards you have to meet in order to remain on the team, so I'm a straight A student. I'm in both Math and Language Arts advanced classes or AIG. Some of my favorite classes are Math and Social Studies, because Math challenges you and makes you think and I think learning about history and different cultures is interesting.”
