TUCKER HULL IS FLYING HIGH WITH LACROSSE SUCCESS

The combination of lacrosse talent and solid work in the classroom has landed Providence High School senior Tucker Hull the chance to play lacrosse for The United States Naval Academy.   This once in a lifetime opportunity is just months away for the son of Jim and Karin Hull.   Before heading off for Annapolis, MD and the Naval Academy, Tucker has his focus set on helping the Panthers win a State Championship in Lacrosse.

Playing from the Attack position, Tucker has become one of the top players in the state of North Carolina.  Since starting to play the game in fifth grade, Tucker has worked hard to become the best player possible. His resume is loaded with success:  2007 All American, 2007 & 2008 All State, 2006, 2007 and 2008 All Conference, 2006, 2007 and 2008 team scoring leader and the state record for points.  All of those added up to the opportunity to attend the Naval Academy.

“When I was a kid I was a little bit insane and that’s what you need to be to do well in lacrosse,” said Tucker.  “It did come naturally at first but it has become harder every year to excel.”

Tucker may feel it’s become harder, but his peers are quick to note that he is one of the hardest workers around.  When the players began improving, Tucker began working harder.   He enjoys his role of being a leading lacrosse player in the area and hopes the talent level in Charlotte will continue to improve.

“Knowing that kids look up to me is an honor.  Hopefully, the better I am, the better they will want to be and likely become. Lacrosse is spreading through Charlotte like a wild fire. With more and more kids playing, high schools all around are adding teams while the teams that have been around are becoming more competitive.”

“When I first moved here about five years ago for a team from Charlotte to beat a team from Raleigh was major news. Now however it happens quite frequently.”

Tucker also knows the Providence Panthers will have to beat a lot of great teams in this area before having the chance to beat a Raleigh team for the state title this year.

“We have work to do before I feel comfortable placing any bets but we have a strong team and great coaches and I believe we’ll go far.”

Once the season is complete and Tucker get a little time to relax, he will begin to focus on the Naval Academy.  He put a ton of thought into his decision to choose a military academy for college.

“Navy was the first Division 1 School to start recruiting me due to some NCAA regulation that lets military academies contact recruits a year ahead of other school. At first I thought, “Not my thing” but as I learned more about the academy it began to appeal to me more. The program and the coaches there are fantastic and the school is one of the best in the nation. On top of that I’m guaranteed a job upon graduation and after serving I’m a top recruit entering the business world. There is no greater opportunity than to attend one of the academies.”

Tucker realizes that unlike many of his friends attending other colleges, life for him will not be all fun and games.  Free time will be at a minimum.

“The course load is immense, the military lifestyle is strict and the lacrosse is physically demanding. There is no free time when you arrive and the combination of those three aspects of the academy make up your daily life.”

Tucker would like to use the next four years to qualify for flight school following graduation.  He would like to make the military a life-long career and travel across the world.

The South Charlotte Sports Report salutes Tucker Hull for his high school success and for earning the opportunity to gain an education and serve our country.  His dedication to lacrosse and the classroom are at the root of this outstanding opportunity.   We wish him the very best of luck this spring and into the future.
