ASHLEY WAGONER SET TO SWIM FOR EAST CAROLINA

Ashley Wagoner, a senior at Ardrey Kell High School has accepted a swimming scholarship with East Carolina University for the 2009-2010 swimming season.

“I choose East Carolina because it's a wonderful campus and the swim team is intense. One of my older brothers went there and I knew I always wanted to go there. The moment I went there for a recruiting trip is when I really fell in love with the school.  I hope to swim the 1650, 1000, 500, 200 Free and the 200 Fly in college.”

Ashley, the daughter of Ron and Cheryl Wagoner, began swimming at the age of 7 at Swim MAC Carolina. After 10 years of swimming her favorite events are the 1650 yard free, 1000 yard free and the 500 yard free. Ashley has made the state 4A swimming team all four years in high school.

Ashley was one of the Girls captions for her high school swim team.  She finished her senior year by making the all conference team as the first Ardrey Kell Swimmer to win an Individual event at the regional 4A’s championships. She won the girls 500 yard free.

At the High school 4A state meet she placed 5th in the 200 yard free and 8th in the 500 yard free. She became the first Ardrey Kell swimmer to place in the top eight in the state meet in both of her events.

Success didn’t come easy as Ashley can be found training 7 days a week, sometimes for three and half hours a day. Nearly every day she swims 7000 meters.

Ashley Looks forward to four years of swimming in college and majoring in Biology and hopefully continuing on to Medical school.

Congratulations Ashley and best of luck in Pirate Country next season.
